“The Hellenic Flame Festival will brighten up the skies of Montreal, yet again, to celebrate Greek culture”
For its 7th edition, the Hellenic Community of Montreal will hold its annual festival “The Hellenic Flame” at Jean-Drapeau Park from the 21st - 23rd August.
From the very beginning, the Hellenique Flame Festival was organized as a means to illustrate the cultural and everyday lifestyle of the community and to depict the important contributions this community presents to Quebec’s society. Noticeably, the last three years have been innovative for the HCM in that they pick a different local association each year, which represents a specific region of Greece, to come and showcase its wonders.
This year, the region of Roumeli, located in the central part of Greece, will have the chance to present a vivid interpretation of its cultural heritage. Roumeli is well known for its costumes, traditional dances but mostly for its distinctive landmarks such as Mount Parnassos and the ancient ruins of Delphi. Their dance troupe, who will be found amongst us during the festival, will therefore allow a clearer painting of this region’s beauty.“This year our community will highlight its 100 years of education. As a celebration, during our festival, we will have activities for the entire family” says Billy Balabanos, President of the Hellenic Community of Montreal. “Sunday will be dedicated to families. Our Parents Committees will organize the day in a way which will invite all children to come learn about the Greek culture. Many interactive activities will be held in order to attract our young visitors” adds Mr. Balabanos.
Other planned activities on the “La Scène de Loto Québec“ include the famous Bouzouki Night held on Friday night by Absolut Disco. Let us not forget about the well known Vassilis Galatis, who will keep us dancing all day and night on Saturday and Sunday. Our local talent will be presented by the traditional dance troupes that are part of the Hellenic Community of Montreal. These troupes are:
The traditional dance troupes of the Hellenic Community of Montreal- Terpsihori and Orpheas.
On site, there will be many cultural booths and a wide variety of greek delicacies to satisfy all different tastes.
The organizing committee of the festival is also proud to present you its dedicated partners for this year:
Loto Quebec
Minister of municipal affaires and regions
City of Montreal
